Event Stresses Importance of Health

Next year, from September 22 to October 15, the ?006 World Ginseng Expo, Geumsan, Korea?is scheduled to take place under the theme ginseng(Korea Insam: original name of best ginseng), the Root of Life? In this country Geumsan (in Chungnam-do Province) produces 80% of the ginseng roots produced in this country and also a large percentage of items processed out of them. The quality of Geumsan ginseng is very highly regarded by scientists, business people, and consumers, for its high saponin content, powerful effects, and firm texture.

The exhibition site will be divided into 멦heme Hall? 멗nternational Hall? 멐xhibition Hall?and 멊usiness Room?

Fermented Foods Bring Health and Longevity

In Korean cuisine many foods undergo stages of preserving and partial fermenting. Some examples of such foods are kimchi, cheonggukjang (fermented soybeans), doenjang (soybean paste), gochujang (red pepper paste) and jeotgal (preserved seafoods). Since many kinds of scientific research have revealed their likely effectiveness against cancer, cholesterol, obesity, and other health problems, fermented foods are attracting greater and greater interest among people in many countries.

Bearing this situation in mind the Jeonbuk-do Local Government started the annual 멗nternational Fermented Food Expo?in Jeonju in 2003. At the festivals in 2003 and in 2004 fermented foods from Japan, France, Australia and other foreign countries were on display as well as from Korea.
Various side events are also arranged for the festival such as making gochujang, experiencing kimchi, and traditional music performances.

Autumn Festival in Area Famous for Good Food

In Korea many people regard Jeonnam-do as the province which has developed the most gorgeous cuisine in the country. This has been possible as it has vast fields and also it faces the sea on two sides, which makes it possible to obtain abundant ingredients. Each year there is a good chance to see what Jeolla dishes are like at the 멞amdo Food Festival?in October.
The food festival is held in Suncheon, and is organised jointly by the Jeonnam Local Government and 22 local city and district authorities. At this festival several hundred kinds of dishes are displayed . Various side events are also arranged: a local food making competition for foreigners, one for college students, a rice cake making event, and tea ceremonies.
