MAFRA (the Korean Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs) and aT (Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp.) announced that they sent market pioneers to Cambodia and Laos for five days from August 28 to September 1 for the purpose of diversifying the export markets for Korean agricultural products.
According to aT, Cambodia and Laos are promising countries with respect to export market diversification, as they have relatively low export barriers and demonstrate a rapid growth in import of Korean agriproducts. The market pioneers conducted an export consultation session on August 28 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where fifteen local buyers were matched with seven Korean suppliers. On September 1, the pioneers held negotiations with local buyers in Vientiane, Laos. In addition, they engaged in market surveying and touring the distributors and customs clearance on the two countries’ borders with Thailand.
Jack Tan of KC Trading, which participated in the sales talks in Cambodia, said, “There is a growing demand for Korean food in Cambodia, so we came here to find good Korean products.” Kim Joon-hyeon, a team manager at Singgreen FS and one of the market pioneers, positively evaluated the pioneer project, saying it was helpful not only to understand the local distribution system but also to develop a better strategy for exporting chicken products.
