To expand exports of samgyetang (chicken soup with ginseng) to China, MAFRA (the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs) is pushing ahead with additional registration of samgyetang factories to produce samgyetang for export to China.
On August 11, MAFRA held a briefing session on the admission requirements (quarantine and hygiene regulations) for samgyetang factories and slaughterhouses.
Currently, eleven Korean samgyetang export processing complexes (six slaughterhouses and five processing factories) have received the approval of the Chinese authorities to export their products to China. Samgyetang entered the Chinese market for the first time in late June and its exports to the country by August was recorded at 71 tons (worth US$ 228,000).
