50 Percent Less Sodium Compared to Other Kimchi Products
The representative Korean kimchi producer Daesang FNF has been making efforts since 2011 to develop kimchi with reduced sodium. The company has finally succeeded and its new product, Jong-ga-jip Everyday Healthy Kimchi, contains very little sodium while retaining the original taste of kimchi.
Jong-ga-jip Everyday Healthy Kimchi has less sodium (100g per 270mg) than any other kimchi product (100g per 706mg on average). This means the amount of sodium in 1kg of the new Daesang product is just a bit above the daily allowance for sodium (about 2,000mg) recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Sodium Reduced But Crispiness Added
Jong-ga-jip Everyday Healthy Kimchi is not produced by simply putting in less salt or seasonings but through the LS (low sodium) method developed by the company. When salting the cabbage, Daesang leaves only the minimum amount of salt needed to make the vegetable crispy. All the ingredients used for the new product―cabbage, salt, seasonings, etc.―come from Korea. Usage of seaweed calcium and taeyangcho (sun-dried red pepper) powder has made Jong-ga-jip Everyday Healthy Kimchi even more savory.
