Sinvian Let’s Drink a Pointed Cactus
Now cacti can entertain our mouths and stomachs alike. A cactus beverage has been released recently. It is Sinvian produced by Opuntia Humifusa Cluster Local Industrial Development Agency of Uiseong-gun.
As Good and Healthy as Ginseng Beverage
There are many kinds of cacti. Sinvian is made of an indigenous Korean variety of eastern prickly pear, aka palm cactus. The roots of this plant contain a lot of saponine and have a ginseng fragrance, so Koreans refer to it as taesam (太蔘, Chinese characters for “big ginseng”). Since the ancient times, the eastern prickly pear cactus has been used to treat illnesses in oriental medicine. With a great number of good components - flavonoids, calcium, vitamins, fiber, amino acids, etc. - it is highly efficient in fighting constipation and bronchial asthma. It is also often used as an antacid and in skin care. What’s more, Korean grape juice and honey are added to the beverage, so it tastes sweet and delicious.
The product is in the limelight at home and abroad. In March, 30,000 bottles of Sinvian were exported to Singapore. Now, Eastern Prickly Pear Agency of Uiseong is making efforts to break into the Indian and ASEAN markets.
