Pungent Tasting Wasabi Is Sushi’s Best Friend

“Nokmiwon Real Wasabi” Made of Chemical-Free Horseradish

World pop star, Beyonce opened up about her diet. For dinner, she usually eats raw yellowtail with wasabi to make her body perfect. Even though the star is on a diet, she absolutely cannot give up having a perfect dish for dinner.
Wasabi is a main sauce for Japanese dishes. The sauce is widely used in Hansik (Korean cuisine), too. The pungent taste of wasabi adds flavor to many Korean dishes, such as baked fish, haemultang (sea food pot stew), samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly), and bulgogi (slices of beef marinated in soy sauce).
The Korean company “Nokmiwon Foods Co., Ltd.” has been making steady efforts since 1997 to expand the overseas market for Korean wasabi with its product “NOKMIWON REAL WASABI.” The item has a horseradish content higher than that in most other products on the market.

Suh Yong-chul, President of the Nokmiwon Foods Co., Ltd., lived Japan for four years. He was astounded at how expensive wasabi was and conceived the idea of producing wasabi in Korea and exporting it to overseas markets. After returning to Korea, he decided to found Nokmiwon Foods Co., Ltd. To make the best wasabi, he studied growing conditions and techniques for cultivating horseradish by visiting the main horseradish production areas. Through his observations, he realized that the key point of cultivation is the clean natural environment. For this reason, Mr. Suh decided to establish the company in Imsil-gun, Jeollabuk-do, an area famous for unpolluted nature and water. He asked local farmers to cultivate horseradish in the quantities needed to supply the required amount of the product, and also worked with an agricultural technology center to inform farmers about new cultivation technologies.
In addition, he introduced environmentally friendly agricultural methods. They increased the usage of natural organic materials, such as organic compost, pyroligneous liquor, and chitosan, and decreased the application of chemical fertilizers. Thanks to his utmost efforts and the cooperation of the farmers, the company finally succeeded in exporting wasabi to Japan in 2002.

Mr. Suh wanted to expand the overseas market, but there was a limit for the simple processed product of wasabi that he offered. That is why he developed “NOKMIWON REAL WASABI.”
The new product was exhibited and promoted in expos in the US, Hong Kong, and other countries. Unlike regular wasabi products, which add mustard, NOKMIWON REAL WASABI has a high horseradish content (82 percent). This explains the strong flavor and rich taste of the product. What’s more, NOKMIWON REAL WASABI uses a natural color made with gardenia seeds while the usage of artificial additives is kept to a minimum. These factors have helped the product captivate the hearts of many buyers.
With the high-quality item and vigorous efforts to develop the market, President Suh was able to achieve large sales of NOKMIWON REAL WASABI and establish an overseas branch office in Yokohama, Japan.
Three types of NOKMIWON REAL WASABI (750g, 100g, and 4g) are being exported to Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the US.
