Crispy Taste and Delicate Scent, Not Bitter
Freeze-Drying Minimizes Destruction of Nutrients
“Ginseng equals Korea” is an established notion. Korea holds an unchallenged position as the birthplace of ginseng. Compared to products from other countries, Korean ginseng contains more than twice the saponin. One ginseng producing company is attracting a lot of attention from domestic and foreign buyers because it has acquired a number of international certifications such as JGAP (Japanese Good Agricultural Practices) and Global GAP (Europe Good Agricultural Practices). Located in Nonsan-gun, “Nolmae-Ginseng Green Farming Corporation” is in the middle of the spotlight.
Pesticide Residues: Zero
International Certifications Obtained: JGAP, Global GAP
Nolmae-Ginseng Green Farming Corporation (NGFC) is producing high-quality ginseng through “eco-friendly microbial agricultural techniques.” This allows minimal use of agricultural pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
Along with this, ginseng grows well because disease and insect pests steadily decrease, while, at the same time, microorganisms increase the fertility of soil. Also, NGFC’s ginseng contains over twice the saponin of general ginseng products. And as the ginseng products of NGFC are biodegradable, they boast zero agricultural chemical residues. This is how NGFC was able to obtain international certifications, such as JGAP, which are known for having very painstaking processes.
Mr. Park Beom-jin, the president of Nolmae-Ginseng Green Farming Corporation, explains: “We plant only high-quality seeds, apply international standards, and control food safety all the time through regular inspections. I have personally studied international certification for many years and recently got a consulting license in international certification. Our acquisition of international certifications and consulting licenses can give overseas buyers confidence in our ginseng products. It also helps us provide high-quality safety education to ginseng farmers.”
Wellbeing Ginseng Chips Are Perfect with Alcoholic Drinks and as Nutritious Snacks for Children
Using the newly acquired international certifications, NGFC has recently developed and introduced a processed ginseng product, “Wellbeing Ginseng Chips,” to overseas food markets. Regular and red ginseng are the main ingredients. Unlike the usual bitter taste of ginseng, the product’s advantages are the crispy taste and delicate scent. In addition, the freeze-drying method is used to produce the healthy snack, so the abundant nutrition of ginseng is not destroyed but kept intact.
Most importantly, thanks to this product consumers can enjoy very easily enjoy ginseng as a nutritious snack for children or as a scrumptious side dish to an alcoholic drink.
“Wellbeing Ginseng Chips” is a set made of ginseng chips (15g) and red ginseng chips (30g), sold for ￥1,150 (USD$15)~￥1,580 (USD$20.3) in Japan.
Mr. Park says with enthusiasm that “People of all ages can enjoy our “Wellbeing Ginseng Chips” much easier than other processed ginseng products, so we’re getting more and more inquiries about this product from overseas buyers. Starting with exports to Japan in the latter half of this year, we will do our utmost to get recognition for the taste and quality of our ginseng snack in China, Southeast Asia, and Europe.”
