Beolgyo cockles are famous in Korea because of their delicious taste and chewy texture. The cockles produced in Yeoja bay in Boseong are a digestible high-protein and low-fat alkaline food. Hence they are very popular with people regardless of sex or age because they contain a lot of vitamins, calcium, and iron.
In Boseong there is a renowned restaurant called the ‘Gung Ggomak (cockle) Hanjeongsik’ located in Beolgyo. ‘Gung Ggomak Hanjeongsik’ is proud of its building in a modern style with its neat interior design. The restaurant offers various cockle dishes such as Ggomak-tangsuyuk (fried cockles with sweet and sour sauce), Ggomak-jeon (pan-fried cockles), and Ggomak-muchim (spicy cockles in vinegar).
There are Gulbi-jeongsik (grilled salted dried yellow corvina and rice, stew, soup, plenty of side dishes, and desserts), and Tteokgalbi-jeongsik (grilled short rib patties and rice, stew, soup, plenty of side dishes, and desserts).
Tourists who want to taste fresh cockles can buy directly at the restaurant.
