LA Falling in Love with Topokki

The ‘Taste of Korea - Topokki Festival’ was held in LA Galaxy’s home depot center under the joint auspices of the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MIFAFF) and the LA Galaxy soccer team, and managed by Korea Rice Foodstuffs Association (KRFA). There were a lot of interesting events at the festival, including ‘World Spicy Topokki eating contest,’ a performance by B-boy and Samulnori (the Korean traditional percussion quartet), and the introducing of new types of topokki: pizza topokki, teriyaki (soy sauce with sugar, liquor and etc.) topokki, and etc. The festival was shown on the giant screen of the LA stadium, so people all around the arena could see. Ha Young-jae, the second Vice-Minister of the MIFAFF and Yang Hyang-ja, President of World Food Culture Center, visited that aT LA branch. They checked out local markets and held informal gathering for discussions with buyers.

Moreover, Ms. Yang presented Gungjung (the royal court) topokki and cream sauce topokki on Hanji (Korean traditional paper) plates with dolls which she brought from Korea. The topokki and decorated Hanji crafts were well received by visitors. They were impressed with its color and mood and they remarked the taste was appealing just looking at the plates. Ms. Yang said: “As topokki is a key food for the globalization of Korean food, I’m going to make the effort the push it popularity abroad.”
